You guys, it's been a crazy couple of years!

Ok, it's been a hot mess. In the midst of all that’s been going on, I’m really excited to be able to offer a new version of my modern school portraits. See, usually these photos are only available to students at a handful of local schools that I partner with. It's the bulk nature of the school setting that allows me to keep my prices ridiculously low and competitive with those crappy big box school photos. For many families, school photos are the only way they are able to afford professional portraits of their kids each year. It really struck me that since many of our kids still aren't physically in school, these photos aren't happening.

That's not ok.

I really wanted to figure something out that would work not just for my school families, but for everyone. Modern school photography takes the artistic vision of a high end portrait and brings it to the school (now, pop up) setting. By encouraging each child to simply be themselves, I'm able to create captivating portraits that families will want to hang on their walls, not assembly line photos they feel obligated to buy. My goal is to provide a safe, simple and personal experience that adds some sense of normalcy when everything else seems completely upside down. I never force a smile, so you can expect photos that capture the true essence of your child's personality. Their silly, goofy kid-ness in all its glory.

what is a modern school portrait?: I don’t know about you, but I was never a fan of the stiffly posed and forced smile images my daughter brought home from school picture day. Weird backdrops and random props felt cheesy and never represented my kid. This is a new kind of school portrait. By encouraging each child to simply be themselves, I'm able to create captivating portraits that families will want to hang on their walls, not assembly line photos they feel obligated to buy. I never force a smile and simply aim to capture the essence of the children I photograph. There are no awkward poses or props and I use natural lighting. The results are genuine, timeless portraits that are far from the traditional cheesy photos to which we've become accustomed.

*Note: this session is best for kids ages 3 and up.
when and where will these be held?: These will be OUTDOORS in the yard of a private home in Los Angeles (Glassell Park/Eagle Rock area). Address will be sent to all participants. When you sign up, you will be reserving your very own 10 minute time slot.
what is the cost and what does it include?: $40 reserves your spot and goes toward your final print purchase. In 4-6 weeks, you will receive a private online gallery with 5-15 edited images, each in color and b/w. You will have a full week to view the gallery and purchase your photos. There is no obligation to buy. My school photo prices are competitive and comparable to larger big box companies. I offer a variety of collections, prints, digitals and a-la-carte products to fit everyone’s needs. Some families spend $45, some spend $1,000 or more, it is up to you!
what safety precautions will you be taking?: Your health and safety (as well as that of my family’s) is my biggest priority. I will do my best to ensure the safest possible environment for our photo shoot, without diminishing the artistic quality of your images. We will be holding these pop ups outdoors and each child will have their own reserved 10 minute time slot. One adult present per family is requested. I will not be touching or posing your child if possible. If a child needs to use a stool, it will be sanitized for the next client. If clients arrive early, they will be waiting in cars or at a safe distance outside the portrait area.
can I bring my brother or sister?: Yes! If you have more than one child, please book the appropriate number of back-to-back time slots. We can try to get a sibling portrait if there is time. The space and time constraints cannot accommodate more than two (max 3) siblings for a sibling portrait.
